A Meditation to Keep You in This Moment
“This exact moment is all that exists.” Is a cue for meditation, an affirmation, a mantra, a truth to set yourself free.
Some people say when you’re anxious or overwhelmed, to name 5 things you can see, touch, hear, or smell to bring you in to the present moment. That’s never done anything for me. It’s naming things in the present moment, but it doesn’t change my inner state. I still feel the same knot in my torso, the racing heart, the tight chest.
However, if I tell myself, the only thing that exists is this exact moment. It cuts all ties to the past and all strings pulling me to the future. The past is no longer real. It’s not here. It can’t touch me. I can’t change it. I’m released. The future isn’t real yet either. I can’t experience it. I can’t change it yet. The only thing that’s real is this exact instant, and the people I see in front of me.
With this meditation, my chest opens. I can breathe. I can see people in front of me with an openness and acceptance that I can’t find with a tight chest and a ruminating mind.
The present, is the only place I can interact with God. It’s the only place I can speak with Him and hear Him. It’s only here, not with myself fragmentned between times, but wholly present that I can be abundantly alive. So, be here. Breathe. Be present, to notice His presence. To give all the love you can give in this one little moment. You don’t need to change your life. You just need to give all that you’ve got, in this one present moment.
