Decide What Matters for Today

Decide what matters most in each season of life, then give yourself permission to let the other things slide.

In the end, it won't matter how many times I raised my voice so much as how many times I softened my voice to ask his forgiveness. It won't matter whether or not the dishes are done but rather if we enjoyed each others presence. It won't matter how much water spilled on the kitchen floor, it will matter that his spirit of curiosity, adventure and learning were nurtured.

I want to be more interested in nurturing his spirit and maturity than I am in having material things go my way. I want to be laying down my pride so I can see how God would have me treat this child. His child. Mothering this sweet boy is a gift given to me for a limited time. I don't want to resent losing my life for his sake. I want to mature so that I see how my life is not utterly lost but rather transformed. Yes, much of my life is laid down for him, but I am still an individual with much to offer, apart from mothering. I want to remember what it feels like to be an invaluable friend.

I want him to see me in the struggle so he sees that we are always conquerers because Christ. I want him to see my faith increase and the ways my life is changing because of it. Not because I can do much but because our God is a living God who is daily breathing life into people. I want to be a part of God's movements on earth. And I want my sweet son to be so wrapped in unconditional love, that he never stops growing and learning and enjoying all of our great God.
